10-Year Anniversary: Destinos Ahora Destinos Ahora Marks Its First Decade of Travel News, Tips, and Sales

This month we commemorate a decade of covering all things travel, hotels, and tourist attractions. In addition to launching a streamlined website design, Destinos Ahora celebrates its 10-year anniversary with a list of the top 10 milestones in our history.

1 Brand Founding

June 2015

Destinos Ahora was born from Dulce‘s desire to create a digital medium where we could share all the tourism news about the Dominican Republic, which she handled as a public relations professional. She came up with the name Destinos Ahora (Destinations Now) based on the immediacy of sharing news about places worth visiting.

We started with a WordPress.com blog and the classic airplane-on-a-turquoise-bullseye logo. Shortly after, we expanded it into a professional international news site with our own domain and hosting, all designed by Emilio.

The site became our calling card that opened several doors and opportunities for us within the local industry.

2 New Headquarters: Buenos Aires

October 2015

We migrated our operations (as well as our four children) from Santo Domingo to the capital of Argentina. There we lived for almost a decade, right in the heart of Buenos Aires, just a stone’s throw from the Obelisco, Teatro Colón, and Corrientes Avenue.

The move resulted in a lot of content creation, but also showed us that we were capable of thriving in any country. A fact we confirmed in 2024 when we spent a full year living in Cancun, Mexico.

3 Social Media Expansion

2018

Our brand some official social media accounts from the very start, but by 2018, they had expanded to garner even more attention than our written content. Thanks to Dulce’s prowess, we were able to highlight multiple destinations, events, and news with those accounts alone, sometimes even being invited to do so.

Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook stand out as our favorite platforms, but our social media empire also encompasses Threads, LinkedIn, Bluesky, X (Twitter), Pinterest, and even Chinese social network Xiaohongshu (RedNote).

4 Trip to Europe

March 2019

We traveled to multiple destinations after settling in Buenos Aires and even beforehand. However, we never did so with the specific intent of creating tourism content until we visited Europe together. There, we fell in love with places like Madrid, Barcelona, Paris, Rome, Capri, and many more.

There we learned a lot about how to effectively and quickly capture the essence of a place. The journey also allowed us to appreciate each destination as a living place with its own personality that deserves our respect.

5 We Are the Brand

June 2019

Our love for tourism has always been present in our content. However, it wasn’t until 2019 that we added the missing ingredient: ourselves.

We rarely featured in our content because we didn’t want to detract from the destinations and tourist activities we covered. Eventually, we became convinced that injecting our presence and personality into the content gave greater focus to the topics we wanted to highlight in the first place.

As a result, we did themed photoshoots, recontextualized our web presence, and expanded our content to include practical tips for travelers, among other tourism-related topics.

6 First YouTube Video

January 2020

We had articles and social photo albums to remember our travel experiences. All that was left were the “home movies”! So, we expanded to YouTube to share our knowledge, recommendations, and experiences with a new audience.

We begin with a recap of all the destinations we visited in 2019. Since then, our official channel has grown to include fun activities, culinary recommendations, exotic adventures, Disney theme park travel tips, and more.

However, this audiovisual growth was impacted by our next “milestone”.

7 COVID-19 Pandemic

March 2020

The world stood still at the end of our first trip to India and the United Arab Emirates. Argentina closed its borders at the beginning of the 2019 coronavirus pandemic, and we were stranded on our way back home, an odyssey we documented in detail.

We rigorously spent the quarantine with uncertainty, indignation, health scares, and the loss of loved ones, just like everyone else. Isolation taught us to never take anything for granted, to always have backup plans, and above all, to become more creative in generating travel content when we couldn’t even leave the house.

Of course, we boarded a plane and planned a getaway the minute travel restrictions eased.

8 New Look

November 2023

After eight years, we decided to polish our look. Our logo got updated with a modern, minimalist style in line with design trends for the current media landscape.

We loved the new Destinos Ahora logo, even more so because it retains all of the brand’s original elements and values.

9 Travel Advisors

January 2024

So many time we were asked if we organized trips that eventually we caved in to demand and decided to become certified travel advisors.

Aside from being a new way to monetize our brand, it helped us learn more about the destinations we already covered in our content. Now we’re certified experts in tourist destinations, cruises, expeditions, theme parks, travel sales platforms, and much more.

We also opened our own Amazon Shop focused on items and gifts for travelers.

10 Return to Santo Domingo and 10-Year Anniversary

March 2025

We’ve come full circle by return to our hometown, full of energy, ready to embark on new local and international adventures.

After a well-deserved break from moving, we’re back with more tourist destination news, tips, deals, and recommendations for you to enjoy.
