México se convirtió en la segunda potencia en turismo médico a nivel mundial y la primera en turismo dental

The Secretary of Tourism of Mexico, Miguel Torruco Marqués, reported that his country reached second place in health tourism worldwide and first place in dental tourism, based on an annual flow of up to three million patients from other countries.

Torruco Marqués stated this during the opening of the tenth annual Medical Tourism Congress, celebrated on the island of Cozumel, Quintana Roo. There Torruco Marqués said that between one million 400 thousand and three million foreign tourists are served every year in that countryaccording to data from Patients Beyond Borders.

In medical tourism, Mexico is surpassed only by Thailand. In addition, the Latin American nation is located among the top five countries with the greatest demand for plastic surgery in the globe, with ample possibilities of winning the top spot, according to the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery.

The secretary explained that the solid growth of the medical tourism industry in recent years is due to several factors. These include Mexico’s geographic location, its private hospital investments, infrastructure and equipment of advanced technology, the quality of its medical services, the cuurent dollar exchange rate, the large number of available plane routes with important cities of the United States, its fair prices of treatments and surgical interventions, and its tourist attractions.

“In addition, our medical specialists are highly qualified, many of whom have postgraduate studies from the best universities in the United States, which gives confidence to American patients,” said Mexico’s Secretary of Tourism.
