No joke! Chile’s National Tourism Service (SERNATUR) recently announced La Gira Inolvidable (The Unforgettable Tour). This campaign promises an exciting experience for a lucky group of 15 to 20 older adults.
The winners will receive an all-expenses-paid trip to one of the sixty-nine destinations in SENATUR’s Vacaciones Tercera Edad (Senior Holidays) program, which includes transfer services (by bus or plane), accommodation, full meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner), excursions, travel assistance insurance, and entertainment activities, among other services. The promotion was announced by a flash mob of elderly people dressed as students in the corner of Paseo Bandera and Huerfanos in the city of Santiago de Chile.
Andrea Wolleter, SERNATUR’s national director, explained that this initiative is part of the new season of the Vacaciones Tercera Edad program, which is in its nineteenth installment since its inception in 2001. “This activity has benefited more than 640 thousand elder adults from all over Chile, allowing tourism to develop actively and positively impacting their physical and emotional health.”
How to Participate?
Applicants must be citizens or residents of Chile age 60 or older. They must send the information of their group of friends from school, with a photo or documents proving that they studied together.
A jury will choose the stories of the two most entertaining groups from among the candidates. The two finalist teams will compete on August 14 for their “Unforgettable Tour.” Applications will be received until August 11, 2019 at vte@sernatur.cl or by envelope at the SERNATUR offices in Santiago de Chile (Avenida Providencia 1550, Providencia commune).
