Finally, you have an excuse to visit the Great Blue Hole. Thanks to Copa Airlines, this natural wonder is closer to you, along with all the other attractions in the country of Belize.

The Panamanian airline announced a new route that will connect Belize for the first time without a layover in Panama. This route links the Central American nation to the other 73 Copa destinations in 31 countries around the American continent, as well as all other destinations available via the member airlines within the global Star Alliance network. This makes Belize the ninth destination served by Copa in Central America.

“Copa Airlines is proud to start operations to this new destination with which we consolidate our leadership in the region, flying to all the countries of Central America and thereby strengthening the connectivity offered by the Hub of the Americas in Panama City,” assured Pedro Heilbron, Executive President of Copa Airlines, during the first ceremonial trip between both countries, held this past December. “With our flight to Belize we hope to expand development opportunities for the business and tourism sector of this city, greatly improving the connectivity of this country with the rest of Latin America,” he added.

About Belize

The nation of Belize has many attractions that come from its rich history, both for its connection with the pre-Columbian civilization of the Maya and for its evolution from a Spanish colony to British rule and eventually to an independent country.

For example, you can visit the archaeological remains of several Mayan settlements such as Xunantunich and El Caracol. Belize also has many ecotourism attractions such as the aforementioned Great Blue Hole, a maritime formation 300 meters wide and 123 meters deep that is part of Belize’s Barrier Reef, a natural wonder that the United Nations Education, Science and Culture Organization (UNESCO) declared a World Heritage Site.

The Panama-Belize connection will include two weekly flights between Tocumen International Airport in Panama City and Philip S. W. Goldson International Airport in Belize City. For more information, visit the official Copa Airlines website.
