NH Hotel Group announced that it won the competition to operate a rooftop hotel on St. Pauli Bunker in the German city of Hamburg, under the group’s nhow brand. The nhow Hamburg opening is scheduled for mid 2021, making it the third nhow hotel to operate in Germany.
This hotel, located in the heart of the city, will have 136 rooms, a bar, cafeteria and a restaurant. The bunker will be expanded with five pyramid-shaped plants. In addition, it will feature a spectacular, quite possibly unique roof garden in Germany.
The hotel will also offer its visitors a fantastic panoramic view of Hamburg, on the visual axis of Elbphilharmonie, and a lush green path, like an outside meander, that will surround the bunker.
nhow Hamburg and the St. Pauli Bunker
EHP Erste Hanseatische Projektmanagement GmbH, proprietors of St. Pauli Bunker, and the real estate developer Matzen Immobilien GmbH & Co. KG, based its decision to deliver the project to the NH Hotel Group on their inclusive proposal, which perfectly reflects the creative scene of the neighborhood of Schanzenviertel in St. Pauli.
The bunker was built in 1942, in just 300 days, by forced labor under the Nazi regime. It is located on Feldstraße, one of two so-called anti-aircraft towers primarily intended for air defense that also served propaganda purposes for the Nazis. During World War II, tens of thousands of people found protection there against Allied airstrikes.
For years St. Pauli bunker has been home to media, cultural and creative industries that continue to have offices there. A prestigious list the nhow Hamburg will soon join.
What Distinguishes the nhow Brand
nhow is the design and lifestyle brand of NH Hotel Group. All nhow hotels have their own personality, inspired by the city that hosts them. These hotels compliment the style of their surroundings with their striking designs. They become fashionable points and destinations for both travelers and the local public.
With this brand NH Hotel Group explores new areas that combine contemporary architecture and designs by famous creators such as Matteo Thun (nhow Milan), Rem Koolhaas (nhow Rotterdam/nhow Amsterdam RAI), Karim Rashid (nhow Berlin) and Teresa Sapey (nhow Marseille) with cutting-edge urban trends.
For the design concept of each nhow hotel, NH Hotel Group works with Enrique Tellechea, founder of brand consulting firm The Null, who collaborates comprehensively in the construction of the brand.
In an nhow hotel nothing is predetermined. Everything is unexpected, iconic, inspirational and surprising, from the lobby to the rooms, restaurants, hallways, meeting rooms and creative spaces.
Other NH Openings
NH Hotel Group will also incorporate seven more properties into the hotel portfolio with the nhow concept in the cities of Rome, Brussels, Santiago, Chile, Lima, Amsterdam, Hamburg and Frankfurt, within the next three years.
Currently, under the nhow concept, NH Hotel Group operates properties in Milan, Rotterdam, Berlin and Marseille. Its next opening, the nhow London hotel in England, is scheduled for January 2020.
