Avior Airlines

Avior Airlines, a company with Venezuelan capital, recently launched its Caracas-Santo Domingo route, which travels twice a week on Fridays and Sundays. The authorities believe that this flight will contribute to the development of Venezuelan tourism.

A ceremony to celebrate the inaugural flight was held at Las Americas International Airport (AILA) in Santo Domingo. Authorities from the Dominican Republic‘s Ministry of Tourism (Mitur) and their Folkloric Ballet gave a warm welcome to passenger on Avior’s Boeing 737-200, an aircraft with a 108-passenger capacity.

Erwin Genie, executive vice president of the airline; Raúl Silva, General Director of the SALTA Corporation, a tourism wholesaler in Venezuela; and Miguelina Ruiz, director of the Dominican Republic’s Office of Tourism Promotion (OPT) in Venezuela, boarded this symbolic flight.

Within the next two weeks, Avior Airlines intends to extend this route to three days a week: Wednesday, Friday and Sunday. Ruiz confirmed this decision due to the popular demand of this first flight by the public, travel agents, and the local tourism sector.

The Mitur representative explained that “this is already the fifth Venezuelan airline that to fly and connect both countries, which makes it another alternative for Venezuelans who want to come and discover the wide variety of options we offer all tourists in our Caribbean nation.”

For his part, Genie expressed great satisfaction for his company to extend the route to a tri-weekly frequency, motivated by confidence in Dominican tourism, its position as the main destination in the Caribbean and the constant flow of passengers between the two countries.

He also highlighted the interest of many Venezuelans to tour Santo Domingo, Puerto Plata, Punta Cana and other destinations in the country.
